What Do We Believe?

At East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church, our faith is the same Christian faith of the church around the world and throughout history. The Biblical Christian faith is summarized by three historic creeds of the Christian church: the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed.

Unfortunately, the Bible has often been interpreted (and misinterpreted) in contradictory ways by different people. Often Christians can agree to disagree about these things, but sometimes the disagreement is over things that are essential to true Christian theology. To help us distinguish between what is essential and what is not, churches in our tradition subscribe to three doctrinal documents with roots in the Protestant Reformation of the 16th and 17th centuries: the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort. The interpretation of the Bible found in these documents is the traditional theology of "Reformed" and "Presbyterian" churches around the world.

What Do We Do?

We meet together in worship on Sundays (10am and 7pm) to receive the grace of God in word and sacrament. We also encourage each other to be faithful members of the body of Christ through a wide range of activities and ministries. Here is a list of some of them:

► K-12 and Adult Church School (Sundays, 11:30)
► Choir
► Vocal Praise Team
► Instrumental Praise Band
► Bible Studies (Men, Women, Couples)

Take a look at the church calendar to find out more about when these and other activities are taking place. You can also contact us to find out more.

What are Our Core Values?

The most important thing in our church is the Christian gospel message: that we are reconciled to God by being united in faith to Jesus Christ.

But among all Christian churches, for whom the gospel is central, what describes our identity?  Below you will find our core values. (Click on any of the headings to be taken to a page where you can read more.)
  • Being Reformed: We value being a confessional Reformed congregation in a Reformed denomination.
  • Being a Church: We value the “three marks of the true church” as the heart of church ministry.
  1. The Preaching of the Gospel
  2. The Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
  3. Church Discipline toward Repentance
  • Fellowship: We value a church that is connected, integrated, and united.
  • Prayer: We value prayer as the primary means of our response to God’s grace.
  • Being Ambassadors for Christ: We value being Christian examples and witnesses for Christ among our neighbors.
  • A Reformed Worldview: We value recognizing Christ’s reign over his church and all creation, with an emphasis on Christian education.
